The way Telangana Rashtra Samithi legislators have been stalling the state assembly for the last two days demanding a resolution on Telangana state formation has surprised many political observers.
One wonders what the TRS legislators want to achieve by insisting on the Telangana resolution. First of all, as Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said the resolution would be defeated since majority of the MLAs in the assembly are from Seemandhra region. The Congress party cannot issue a whip to its MLAs to vote in favour of Telangana because the party has so far not taken any stand on the Telangana issue. So is the case with the TDP. So, the MLAs would vote according to their conscience. In such a scenario, the resolution might not get even 70-80 votes because not all the Telangana MLAs are supporting the state bifurcation. It would only expose the weakness of the Telangana demand.
Secondly, there is no significance to the Telangana resolution in the assembly, because the Centre can straightaway grant separate Telangana without the assembly resolution. And the TRS knows about it.
So, the only strategy of the TRS seems to be exposing the anti-Telangana MLAs and in turn, get the political mileage. For that, it is wasting the precious time of the assembly!
