Who is the next target of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s “Operation Akarsh”?
Seeking to exploit the gloom pervading the Telangana camp in the wake of UPA government’s unwillingness to grant the statehood, the TRS has gone into the top gear, wooing the elected representatives from the region across the political spectrum.
The latest buzz is that the Karimnagar MP and a vociferous Telangana supporter Ponnam Prabhakar is planning to quit the Congress and join the TRS. Of late, Ponnam has raised his pitch, attacking the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy with no holds barred.
It is said that Ponnam would take the plunge soon after the Centre’s announcement on Telangana which is expected to go against the interests of the statehood cause.
Already, he is believed to be in touch with the TRS leadership and there is a growing sense of convergence of views between them. There is a clear pattern to the public statements of the Congress leaders before their resignation and their eventual joining of the TRS.
Recently, the three Congress legislators who quit the party and joined the TRS had criticized the Congress leadership before crossing over to the TRS.
