Troubles seem to be haunting chief minister K Rosaiah continuously. Even as he was breathing easy after the two-month long Telangana agitation, the communal riots in the old city on Saturday and Sunday disturbed his mind a lot.
More than 30 people received injuries in the communal clashes in the Old City, following a dispute over putting up of flags by a community and resisted by another in Moosabowli and Hussainialam. The riots spread to other areas like Mylardevpalli in Rajendernagar, Siddiambar Bazar and Afzalgunz on Sunday. The rioters attacked the passers by and indiscriminately beat them up as there were rumours that religious places were being attacked, further heightening tensions. The police had to impose Section 144 in the entire South Zone of Hyderabad.
Rosaiah had an emergency meeting with the police officials and ordered them to bring the riots under control by dealing with the abettors of violence sternly. He still remembers how certain forces had instigated communal riots to pull down the then Channa Reddy government in 1991. There were allegations against the then Congress rebel leader Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. Now, he must be suspecting a similar hand. That City police commissioner A K Khan claimed that the communal riots were pre-planned itself indicates that Rosaiah is suspecting some sabotage!
