An interesting point about the terms of reference of the Justice B N Srikrishna committee announced on Friday is that nowhere do they mention about the status of Hyderabad.
Everybody expected that Hyderabad would be a key issue for the committee to examine since it is the bone of contention between the pro- and anti-Telangana protagonists. But the Centre has thought otherwise. Any reference to the status of Hyderabad would give an impression that the committee is meant for bifurcation of the state and that it should examine the capital issue afresh. This would have led to a lot of unrest in the coastal Andhra.
Therefore, the centre carefully drafted the terms of reference, indicating that Hyderabad issue would be considered as part of the examination for demand for separate Telangana or united Andhra Pradesh. So, it has kept the issue under wraps.
