The YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy which has always been looking for every opportunity to run down Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu has got yet another chance to do that.
Jagan’s daily Sakshi has come out with a story questioning the transfer of Chandrababu Naidu’s illegal assets case from Chief Justice M B Lokur court to Justice Eshwaraiah court. Justice Lokur took the decision apparently on moral grounds because he has shares in Reliance Industries which is also one of the defendants in the case. Moreover, the same bench which ordered the CBI probe cannot hear Naidu’s vacate petition as well.
However, Sakshi indirectly attributed motives to the Chief Justice saying the case was deliberately to Justice Eshwaraiah court despite the fact that the latter’s family has indirect links with the TDP. It said Justice Eshwaraiah’s wife was a ZPTC member of the TDP in the past.
The report creates an impression that Jagan is suspecting the integrity of Justice Eshwaraiah; and secondly, he is predicting the judgement well in advance. So, in case the judge dismisses Vijayamma petition, Jagan will have a ready-made defence to put forth his argument.
According to senior journalist-turned-MLA Dr Nageshwar, Jagan is indirectly bringing pressure on Justice Eshwaraiah to voluntarily step down from the case. But who knows Sakshi will keep quiet even if the case is handed over to another judge? “After all judges have not descended from Mars. They have their own background and political thoughts. If we start questioning everybody, then we are questioning the judiciary,” Nageshwar added.
