The indefinite strike by the people of Telangana has taken a violent turn on Tuesday when Congress MP from Vijayawada Lagadapati Rajagopal made an attempt to express solidarity with the Seemandhra employees at the Road Transport Authority office in Hyderabad.
Rajagopal flew down to Hyderabad from New Delhi and straightway went to the RTA office at Khairatabad to call on transport official Srinivas, who was manhandled by a Telangana Rashtra Samithi activist on Monday.
Lagadapati also wanted to extend support to the Seemandhra staff, who were being prevented by the Telangana employees from attending the duties.
As Lagadapati entered the office, the Telangana staff obstructed him and raised slogans against him.
As the situation turned tense, the police entered the scene and arrested Lagadapati and shifted him to Jubilee Hills police station.
On coming to know about Lagadapati attempt, hundreds of Telangana activists led by Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki Goud, MLAs Harish Rao and Vishnu Vardhan Reddy and TNGO leader Swamy Goud went to the RTA office. They were resisted by the police with strong force. In the mele, the police pushed down Harish Rao, who lost consciousness and got his shirt torn into pieces.
The entire premises reverberated with Jai Telangana slogans. Finally, the police arrested the MP, the MLAs and others and shifted them to Banjara Hills police station.
