The Congress party leadership is said to be angry with the Election Commission of India for hurriedly announcing the schedule for by-elections to 18 assembly and one Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh without giving any breather to the ruling Congress government in the state.
According to the reports from New Delhi, the higher-ups in the Congress party conveyed their displeasure to the EC members over the sudden announcement of schedule.
“Normally, the election schedule is announced a week or 10 days before the issuance of notification. In this case, there is a gap of 24 days before the announcement of schedule and the notification which is very unusual and without any valid reason,” sources said.
This has brought all the development and welfare activities in 13 districts to a standstill. The government has cancelled Praja Patham programme and even government transfers which have been pending for a couple of years had to be abruptly dropped for this year, too.
“The Congress party has lost whatever minor advantage it has in the by-elections with the advancement of the election schedule,” the sources added.
