The case followed a order by the Ranga Reddy district court based on a petition filed by a local lawyer, Janardhan. He had moved the court last month, seeking action against the TDP President for cheating the people of Telangana.
The TDP, in its manifesto in 2009, had promised to work for realizing the statehood goal but subsequently backtracked, the petitioner argued.
“This amounts to cheating. I urge the court to order filing of cheating case against Chandrababu Naidu,” the petitioner said.
The court had directed Chaitanyapuri police station to register cheating case against Naidu. With the police ignoring the order, the petitioner again moved the court on Tuesday, following which a case was registered under section 420 of the IPC. The court directed the police officials to give explanation within a week as to why no case was registered earlier.
Going by this case, the leaders of all political parties must be careful before doling out any electoral promises to the people.
